Individual Yoga
Developing a Personal Home Practice
Individual tuition is aimed at developing your own practice, personally designed to meet your needs, lifestyle and aspirations. This was how Yoga was traditionally taught. If you really wish to develop your Yoga, and make it truly effective in supporting your life, or you want a Yoga routine to help with a specific need or problem, then this is for you. Group classes are a great way of being introduced to Yoga. However, they are limited in their ability to ensure Yoga suits your particular health needs and interests.

On the first session I will typically take a case history and ask you to do some simple movements so that I can assess how your body moves. We will then work together to design and try-out an achievable practice that you can realistically use on a regular basis at home. I will write out the practice for you using simple “stick-figure” diagrams and give you a copy to take away. Typically, it will include a number of Yoga exercises (asana) and some breathing exercises (pranayama). It may also include elements of relaxation, meditation, and we may discuss aspects of your lifestyle and diet. Your age, health, lifestyle, occupation, culture, time available etc. will be reflected in any practice given.
Through subsequent meetings, your practice will be developed and refined through feedback, discussion and observation of your experience. On some occasions we may just check your practice; on others we may change it significantly. It is usual to aim to meet for at least six sessions. After this, you can review your progress. Some students feel that this is enough for their particular needs, whilst others continue their individual sessions for years.

'Submit to a daily practice. Your loyalty to that is like a ring on the door. Keep knocking and the joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who is there'. ~ Rumi |
Student Testimonial
'As you know, life hasn't been at its easiest in recent months but with all my private practice and plenty of breathing practice it has really helped me to put things into perspective. Generally I think I have a strong inner self with plenty of grit and determination but I know if I hadn't had my yoga I would have crumbled.
So, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you are teaching me. It is invaluable to me'. ~ With love & light, Niki xx |
